Accurate measurements are essential for designing a kitchen that fits perfectly and functions beautifully. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you measure your kitchen like a pro!
What You'll Need:
Tape measure (preferably metal and retractable)
Pencil and eraser
Graph paper or blank paper
Ruler or straightedge
Optional: smartphone camera for photos
Step 1: Draw the Outline
Start by sketching the basic shape of your kitchen (top-down view). It doesn’t need to be to scale — just a clear layout of all walls, windows, doors, and openings.
Step 2: Measure the Walls
Measure each wall corner to corner in millimeters (or inches if preferred).
Note the total length and height of each wall.
Mark any wall features like bulkheads, columns, or sloped ceilings.
Step 3: Measure Doors & Windows
Measure the width and height of each window and door.
Measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of each window.
Record how far each door/window is from the nearest corner.
Note which way the door swings (in/out, left/right).
Step 4: Record Key Features
Mark the location of:
Existing appliances (oven, fridge, dishwasher, etc.)
Sink and plumbing points
Electrical outlets and switches
Gas and ventilation points
Radiators or heaters
Use symbols or simple labels to mark each item on your sketch.

Step 5: Ceiling Height
Measure the ceiling height from floor to ceiling in at least two places.
Step 6: Take Photos
Photograph each wall and key feature. Make sure the photos are well-lit and show:
The full wall from floor to ceiling
Close-ups of plumbing and electrical outlets
Any unusual features or obstacles
Final Check
Before sending your measurements:
Double-check all numbers.
Make sure every wall and feature is labeled.
Ensure photos match the layout and measurements.
